One woman died and nine people injured Tuesday in a crash in Rockville on the Capital Beltway in which one man drove in the wrong direction.
According to Maryland State Police, Jayleen Hannor, 23, of Georgia, drove south in the northbound lanes at 11:45 p.m., starting on I270 near Rockledge Drive. He continued in the wrong direction and onto the outer loop of the Capital Beltway.
Hannor, who was driving a white Mercedes SUV, then crashed into two vehicles on I495 at Route 355 in Rockville.
The female driver of a Nissan was pronounced dead at the hospital. Another adult and three children in the Nissan were injured.
He also struck a Lexus. All five adults in that car were injured and transported to the hospital, according to police.
Police said that Hannor then fled but was taken into custody a short time later.
Montgomery County Police assisted at the scene, and members of the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration helped close the road down.
