The County’s Department of Health and Human Services’ Asian American Health Initiative (AAHI) awarded 10 local organizations with $71,000 in funding.
The AAHI, one of three minority health initiatives in the County’s Department of Health and Human Services, awarded the grants through their Asian American Center of Excellence (AACE) micro-grant funding opportunity.
The AACE launched in January. The Center aims to support local organizations that serve Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. Through the AACE, the AAHI offers micro-grants to better the capacity, sustainability and infrastructure of smaller community-based organizations.
AAHI worked with the Primary Care Coalition of Montgomery County to administer the AACE micro-grants. Eligible organizations could submit proposals for funding for equipment, professional development and consultants.
The application process was competitive. Seventeen organizations submitted proposals requesting over $190,000 in total. Of those organizations, 10 received micro-grants, totalling $71,000. Of those 10 groups, four were given grants worth over $10,000.
Chinese American Community Health Services received the highest grant, totalling $13,311. The Gaithersburg group aims to increase health awareness and accessibility throughout the D.C. metropolitan area, according to their website.
The Senior Connection of Montgomery County received the second highest grant, totalling $13,070. Additionally, the American Diversity Group, located in Germantown, received $12,169.
