Precocious 12-Year-Old Sports Reporter Who Covered Paris Olympics Follows His Passion

To say that 12 year-old MoCo resident George Johnston IV is an aspiring sports reporter would be inaccurate. He already is one. A veteran one and an accomplished one at that. Since the age of eight, Johnston, who goes by G4 not to be confused with his father George who is G3, has been talking about his passion – sports.

Johnston, from Brookeville, has made a name for himself as a correspondent on Nickelodeon’s NFL Slimetime for three seasons. He also spent three years with the Baltimore Ravens as a sideline reporter captivating audiences as the Kids’ Night host. Beyond TV, George runs his own YouTube channel, G4 Sports Talk, sharing his love for sports and connecting with young fans.

He was featured on the Kelly Clarkson Show when he was 8 and NBC4 this summer before his trip to Paris covering the Summer Olympics. Recently he taped segments about soccer, football and basketball at MCM’s Silver Spring podcast studio.

Why does he like sports so much?

“Sports really brings people together especially with the Olympics even in times of war,” he told MCM.

“You don’t have to like each other, you don’t even have to know each other but sports will really bring you together especially if you’re rooting for the same team.”

“The Olympic motto is faster, higher, stronger” he added “and one thing about sports is that it really shows some of the capabilities of humans. You have people like Usain Bolt running 100 meters in less than 10 seconds. Stuff like that really shows the athletic capabilities that the human race can go to. Stuff like that makes me really passionate about sports.”

With his talent, passion and quite a head start, George’s journey in sports journalism is just beginning.

Here are a few highlights from his very eventful 2024.
