
Members of the Montgomery County Police Alcohol Holiday Task Force continue enforcing alcohol-related offenses during this season.
Between Dec. 18 and Dec. 21, 27 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. These arrests occurred during the fifth week of the task force efforts, and bring the total of drivers arrested so far up to 164.
On Dec. 21 at 12:53 a.m., members of the task force initiated a traffic stop on they considered an impaired driver heading south on I-270 by exit 13. Following a sobriety test, the driver was arrested for driving under the influence.
Police then searched the driver and found a loaded 9 mm handgun. The driver had a valid concealed and carry permit.
After charging the driver, the officers seized the gun and charged the driver with possessing a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.
About a half hour later, task force officers pulled over a second impaired driver, who was traveling in the 500 block of Quince Orchard Road. He also performed poorly on the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.
Police arrested the driver, searched his vehicle and found three handguns and a long gun. He was charged with driving under the influence and firearms offenses.
During the week of December 11-14, the task force arrested 28 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
According to police, other arrests for driving under the influence have been made by officers not on the holiday task force.
