17-Year-Old Charged in Silver Spring Shooting

Police said a 17-year-old male is charged with a shooting in the downtown Silver Spring area that occurred in February.

On Feb. 2 a man and his son were moving things from one car to another on Hartford Avenue when four suspects got out of a Honda Civic and approached them, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).

Police said the armed suspects tried to steal the man’s car, a physical altercation ensued, and the man was shot in the head and abdomen. The suspects then left the scene in the Honda.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital. Detectives identified a 17-year-old as one of the suspects involved.

Detectives got an arrest warrant charging him with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, armed robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to police.

Last Friday the suspect was transported to Montgomery County and served with the arrest warrant. He was being held on unrelated charges in Prince George’s County, according to police.

He is being held without bond, according to MCPD.
