Two Montgomery County cannabis dispensaries announced Tuesday they intend to unionize with the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400 Union.

Workers at The Apothecarium in Burtonsville and Sweetspot in Olney issued a joint statement noting they had filed for union elections.

“We are grateful for our community, from patients to customers alike, for their support in fair treatment and compensation of workers. We look forward to voting for our union when we receive our dates from the National Labor Relations Board and bargaining our first contracts alongside the other The Apothecarium/Terrascend and Sweetspot locations that have recently unionized across the country.”

The Apothecarium in Cumberland, Maryland voted to unionize with the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 27 last week.

According to the employees’ statement, the workers filed for union elections after a majority of eligible employees signed authorization cards in support.

If approved, the union would cover 11 employees at the Burtonsville dispensary on Sandy Spring Road and 14 employees at the Olney dispensary on Georgia Avenue.

Montgomery County dispensaries that previously voted to unionize include Green Goods in Rockville, Potomac Holistics in Rockville and Zen Leaf in Germantown.
