Two firefighters were injured and five people were displaced after a house fire Monday night in Fairland, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).
The fire occurred around 9 p.m. on Aventurine Way, MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer wrote on Twitter. All occupants got out with no injury and two firefighters had non-life threatening injuries. Piringer said the exterior blaze spread rapidly and fire conditions were heavy upon firefighters’ arrival.
He said the cause was undetermined, and was a possible electrical failure through exterior lighting fixtures, or possibly smoking materials. There were ignited combustibles below the rear deck.
Piringer added that Pepco indicated “meter tampering.” Damage is estimated to be around $600,000.
Between 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, firefighters will be in the Fairland area around Aventurine Way checking smoke alarms and talking with residents about fire safety.
