20-year-old Jean Pierre Velasco appeared before a Montgomery County grand jury on July 26, with the jury indicting him on charges stemming from his role in a 2023 double fatal collision.
The single-car collision, which occurred at about 4:07 a.m. on March 4, 2023, killed 19-year old Leslie Kristin Ventura and 19-year-old Kailey Briana Vigil of Rockville. Both were passengers in the car.
According to police, the investigation into the crash — in which the car struck the center median, left the road and hit several objects before eventually colliding with a utility pole — determined that Velasco was responsible.
According to an MCPD press release, Velasco was indicted on two charges of negligent manslaughter by vehicle, two charges of homicide by vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and two charges of homicide by vehicle while under the influence of alcohol per se.
The court has set a pre-trial hearing date for Oct. 4, with the jury trial scheduled for Jan. 21, 2025.
