Twenty-one Montgomery County students are National Merit Scholars and will receive scholarships between $500 and $2,000 for up to four years from the colleges they will attend.
The winners are finalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship program. They join more than 3,000 fellow winners from across the country in receiving these scholarships. About 7,140 high school students will receive National Merit Scholarships totaling almost $28 million.
The county winners are:
Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring:
Eileen Luo will attend Vanderbilt University of Maryland and is considering a career in computer science.
Eric Wang will attend University of Maryland and is considering a career in computer science.
Solomon Ucko will attend University of Maryland to pursue a career in computer science.
Jonah Witte will attend Rochester Institute of Technology and is considering a career in computer science.
Charles Wajda-Gotwals will attend University of Alabama and is considering a law career.
Poolesville High School:
Shubham Bhatnagar will attend University of Maryland and is considering a career in computer science.
Miranda Wang will attend University of Maryland and is considering a career in medicine.
Roc Yu will attend University of Maryland and is considering a career in computer programming.
Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville:
Matthew Gu will attend University of Maryland.
Finna Hsu will attend University of Maryland and is considering a career in public policy.
Gwendolyn Taylor will attend Fordham University and is considering a law career.
Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring:
Matan Meltzer will attend University of Maryland and is considering a career in engineering.
Winston Churchill High School in Potomac:
Ilayda Dogan will attend University of Maryland and is considering a career in computer science.
