Turnout was so strong for the third annual gun buyback event Saturday Rockville City Police and the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office ran out of gift cards.
Those voluntarily surrendering firearms – some showed up one hour before the start of the event – received a $100 Visa gift card for their handguns, rifles and shotguns. Those surrendering assault weapons and privately made firearms – ghost guns – received a $200 Visa gift card.
About 270 firearms were collected at the event at Redgate Park are being inventoried. They will be sent for destruction soon.
“This event was an incredible success and was made possible by our partnerships with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office and Rockville City government,” said Rockville Police Chief Victor Brito.
