Woodmont Country Club’s North Course in Rockville was the site of a U.S. Open Qualifying Monday. 63 players played for three spots in next week’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst.
Woodmont hosted qualifying for the 39th time dating back to 1964.
Tim Widing (66, 67), Isaiah Salinda (66, 67) and amateur Wells Williams (67, 67) took the three coveted spots and will tee it up at the U.S. Open.
The biggest name in the field was Marc Leishman, a member of the LIV Tour and 6-time winner on the PGA Tour. Leishman appeared to be a shoe-in for one of the three spots after a morning round of 64 featuring 7 birdies and no bogeys but a second round 74 left the Australian four shots outside the cut. Former PGA Championship winner Jimmy Walker was scheduled to play but withdrew.
Chevy Chase resident Marshall Meisel, a Gonzaga College High School alum and rising senior at Wake Forest, shot 72 and 72 finishing 10 shots back of the cut.
