3 Suspects Arrested for Gaithersburg Carjacking

Montgomery County Police (MCPD) arrested and charged three teenagers for an armed carjacking that took place on Monday Nov. 14 in Gaithersburg.

The suspects have been identified as Zyier Brown,18, and Jayla Newman,18, both from Washington D.C. A 16-year-old from Upper Marlboro, MD has also been arrested but has remained unnamed.

At 1:30 a.m., officers responded to the 7800 block of Guildberry Ct. after receiving a call about the theft. According to an MCPD investigation, the suspects approached the victim, pulled out a handgun, forcibly removed the victim from his car and took his cellphone. The suspects fled the scene leaving the victim unharmed.

Officers later located the car around Montgomery Village Ave. and Christopher Ave. A small chase ensued but concluded when the suspects lost control and crashed soon after. The vehicle was searched and two handguns, one with a drum magazine were confiscated. After being treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital, officers obtained an arrest warrant and charged the three suspects with carjacking related charges.

The three suspects are currently being held in Fairfax County and are set to be extradited back to Montgomery County.
