Four Metro stops on the Red Line will be closed during the end of 2023 so safety repairs can be made.
Shuttle buses will transport commuters.
There will be no Red Line service between Dupont Circle and Gallery Place from Dec. 18 to Dec. 30. Farragut North and the upper level of Metro Center will be closed.
While Blue, Orange, and Silver line trains will still stop at Metro Center, both entrances on G Street NW at 11th and 13th streets will be closed to accommodate equipment and work crews. Commuters can access the station at both entrances on 12th Street NW.
From Dec. 22 through Dec. 24, there will be no Red Line service between Dupont Circle and Union Station. Judiciary Square Station will be closed, and Red Line service will be unavailable at Gallery Place. Additionally, the Gallery Place entrance at Ninth & G streets NW will be closed.
The dates were chosen as ridership is lowest then. Ridership drops to 40% lower than normal during this time, according to a statement from Metro.
While the stations are closed, Metro will repair deteriorated concrete ceiling above the tracks. Work crews also will replace switch machines, install nearly 40,000 linear feet of fiber-optic cables, replace concrete grout pads that stabilize the tracks and fix leak repairs.
Other work will include installing platform edge lighting at the closed stations, replacing rail fasteners, repairing rail joints and installing additional insulators that provide a barrier between the electrified third rail and ground.
