To be arrested for a DUI, a driver must fail a roadside sobriety test or have a blood alcohol content over 0.08%. A DUI is a misdemeanor in Maryland. Convicted individuals face fines from $500 to $5,000 and two months to five years in jail, depending on the number of offenses. Other penalties include a suspended license for up to six months. Drivers can still use their car during suspension by enrolling in Maryland’s ignition interlock program.
