Today is Monday, Aug. 1 and here’s the 10 day weather forecast. Here are five things to know happening in Montgomery County today.
1. Council Happenings: The Council is in recess until after Labor Day, with the next Council Session scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 9 a.m. The Council passed numerous bills, held public hearings on proposed legislation and took other actions last week. Here’s a few:
- Council’s Antisemitism Resolution Delayed Until September
- Council Approves Ballot Question for November Election
- Council Votes for Lactation Rooms, Paid Parental Leave for County Employees
- Council Approves Gender-Inclusive, Single-User Restroom Bill
- Council Hears Clashing Public Views Over Firearm Bill
- Tenants, Property Associations Testify on Rent Cap Bill as Increases Allowed Next Month
- County Council Releases Thrive Montgomery 2050 Survey, Asks for Community Feedback
2. Poolesville Sunflower Fields: The Maryland Department of Natural Resources plants fields of sunflowers each spring in the McKee-Beshers Wildlife Management Area, which is located off River Road near Poolesville. MyMCM visited the fields recently, take a look.
3. Municipal Monday: The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council are in recess during the month of August. Their next regular session is scheduled for Tuesday, September 6. The Poolesville Town Commissioners meet virtually at 7 p.m. Here is the agenda. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet tonight at 7 p.m. for a virtual meeting only. The meeting agenda and information may be found online.
4. Ride On Fares Resume: The county Ride On bus system starts collecting fares again today, following a two-year hiatus. The new rate is $1 per ride, which is half the pre-pandemic rate.
5. Metro Rail: Red Line rail service between the Van Ness and Farragut North stations is suspended so crews are able to make repairs to is suspended between Farragut North and Van Ness stations due to repairs to an arcing insulator. Also, Red Line trains will single track between Silver Spring and Forest Glen stations this week, Monday through Thursday.
Metrorail begins today, 8/1, at 5am with Red 🔴 Line service temporarily suspended btwn Farragut North & Van Ness.
🚌 Shuttle buses will run every 7-10 min, stopping at:
– Farragut North
– Dupont Circle
– Woodley Park
– Cleveland Park
