1. Blood Drive: The American Red Cross is holding a blood drive in Gaithersburg from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 8301 Turkey Thicket Drive in Gaithersburg. Contact David.Hull@redcross.org or call/text 240-676-9955 to schedule an appointment. You can also call the Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767 to make an appointment.
2. Food Assistance: Montgomery County has four food distribution events today noted below. Check the county’s website here for more food distribution events this weekend.
- Upcounty Hub drive-thru food distribution from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Apple Ridge Recreation Area in Montgomery Village.
- The Interfaith Works HUB food distribution takes place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (drive through from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., walk-ups from noon to 12:30 p.m.) at 751 Twinbrook Parkway in Rockville.
- The St. John’s Nourishing Bethesda Family Food Program is located at 5020 Battery Lane in Bethesda and will be distributing food from 1 to 3 p.m.
- The Seneca Creek Community Church located at 13 Firstfield Road in Gaithersburg holds a walk-up food distribution from 2 to 3 p.m.
3. County Animal Services: The fees to adopt a pet from the county’s animal services center are reduced through Sept. 19. The center currently has more than 100 animals available for adoption.

4. “Coco” Screening in Germantown: Montgomery Parks hosts a free screening of “Coco”, the 2017 animated film by Pixar , at the South Germantown Recreational Park. Seating starts at 7:15 p.m.
5. Temporary Garage Closure: The garage for the Wheaton Library and Community Recreation Center is closed for one week starting today. Parking is available next to the playground or across the street at the Wheaton Rescue Squad parking lot. See the message on the public libraries’ website.
