5 Things to Know Today, Aug. 29, In Montgomery County

It’s Thursday, Aug. 29, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Overdose Awareness Day: Today, the County will mark International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) and National Recovery Month.

2. MCDOT: The MCDOT Pedestrian Safety Team will be at the Strathmore at 4 p.m., Grosvenor Metro Station in North Bethesda, MD 20852, to spread awareness about the Pedestrian Hybrid Beacons that have been activated in the area.

A pedestrian hybrid beacon (PHB) is designed to help pedestrians safely cross busy streets by providing a protected crossing. Activating the PHB displays a red signal indicating stopping traffic, allowing pedestrians to cross the road with a WALK signal.

3. Back to School Drive: 751 Twinbrook Pkwy from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

4. Food Distribution: Kingdom Cares Food Distribution, Enclave Apartments, 11225 Oak Leaf Drive at 5 p.m.

5. ICYMI: MCM stopped by Pine Crest Elementary School in Silver Spring on Monday as students, staff, and officials rang with a block party on the first day of school.
