1. Council Recess: The county council is currently in recess and will return to regular business in September.

2. New ‘ePlans’ Customer Training: Training for the Department of Permitting Services updated version of ePlans is available on Monday, Aug. 5 and Tuesday, Aug. 6. Training videos are available on the DPS website.

3. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet in a closed session at 7:30 p.m. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 7 p.m. The agenda may be found online here.

4. Katie Ledecky Makes Olympic History: Bethesda native Katie Ledecky won gold in the 800-meter freestyle, making history as the American woman with the most Olympic gold medals, the most by any female swimmer worldwide, and tying for the most golds by any female athlete overall, Saturday, Aug. 3. Ledecky’s victory cements her status as one of the greatest swimmers in Olympic history.

5. Olympian Thea LaFond Wins Gold: Former Montgomery County Public Schools teacher and Silver Spring resident Thea LaFond won gold in the women’s triple jump Saturday, Aug. 3, earning the Caribbean island nation of Dominica its first Olympic medal.
