1. Holiday Drive for Hurricane Victims: The county police department is collecting toys and essential items to give to North Carolina families impacted by Hurricane Helene. Through Friday, items can be dropped off at police headquarters in Gaithersburg, at the District 5 Station in Germantown, and at the Hyattstown Fire Station.

2. Council Meeting: There is no county council session today.

3. Congressional App Challenge Winners: Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD-08) announced the winners of his district’s 2024 Congressional App Challenge. Wheaton High School sophomore Ayden Yeung and Montgomery Blair High School sophomore Julian Givens won for their “Better Buildings” app that helps students report problems with school facilities.

4. Manna CEO Retiring: After 11 years leading the largest community-based organization striving to end hunger in Montgomery County, Manna Food Center CEO Jackie DeCarlo is retiring.

5. ICYMI: A 12-year-old Montgomery County girl is making sure kids in need get toys this holiday season. Annabelle Lee partnered with the County Sheriff’s Office, the Family Justice Center, and Sheppard Pratt to collect and deliver toys as part of her annual toy drive.
