1. MCPS College Fair: Representatives from more than 30 HBCUs (historically black colleges and universities) will attend Montgomery County Public Schools’ (MCPS) 17th Annual HBCU college fair on Friday, Feb. 14 at The Universities at Shady Grove. Fair starts at 6 p.m.

3. Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival: The annual festival returns to the Bethesda Marriott for three days of jazz on 5 stages running simultaneously. The JAM stage, located just inside Bethesda Marriott’s Copper Mill restaurant, is a free stage.

5. ICYMI: One of the most iconic American novels is said to have been inspired by a man who was once enslaved in Montgomery County. Josiah Henson is the inspiration behind Harriet Beecher Stowe’s “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” Those telling Henson’s story locally want people to know the persevering hero behind the controversial character.
This Black History Month, MCM visits the museum in North Bethesda that spotlights the real “Uncle Tom.”
