1. Montgomery County Council: Commemoration on Black History Month by County Council.

2. Public Hearing at 7:30 p.m.: Corridor Forward: The I-270 Transit Plan and choice of the priority transit project to be funded with ongoing toll revenue from Phase 1 South and Phase 1 North of the Maryland Department of Transportation’s I-270 & I-495 Managed Lanes Study.

The Council meeting is conducted remotely via Zoom and will be televised live on County Cable Montgomery (Xfinity channels 6 and 996, RCN channels 6 and 1056; and FiOS channel 30). 3. Parinirvana: Mahayana Buddhist festival marking the anniversary of Buddha’s death. Pure Land Buddhists call the festival “Nirvana Day”. Parinirvana is celebrated by some Buddhists on February 8th. Nirvana Day is the celebration of Buddha’s death when he reached total Nirvana, at the age of 80.
In recognition of Montgomery County’s religious, ethnic and cultural diversity and in respect for the diversity of its own workforce, on March 28, 2006, the County Council passed legislation ( Bill No. 1-06: Special Days of Commemoration ) to designate certain days of commemoration relating to the religious, ethnic and cultural heritage of County residents.
4. Black History Month: Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) has programs planned throughout the month for residents to learn more about African-American history and culture. Today at 6:30 p.m.: African-American Authors in Science Fiction: A Panel Discussion. Learn about the experiences of African American authors in science fiction.
5. Food Distributions: Up-County Food Distribution at Germantown Elementary School 19110 Liberty Mill Rd, Germantown, MD 20874 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Also, Hughes UMC Mid County Hub Food Distributions from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 10700 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring MD 20902.
