1. Presidents Day Holiday: The county government and public schools are closed today. Check this list of closings before you head out today. Also, for those with county provided trash and recycling service, collections slide by one day this week.
2. Appliance Savings: Maryland is not collecting sales tax today on the purchase of qualifying Energy Star appliances.
3. Calling Creative High School Students: Two contests are currently open to high school students. The Gaithersburg Book Festival is accepting submissions to their poetry contest through Friday, February 21. Create a public service announcement and submit it by February 28 to promote pedestrian safety for the MCDOT’s ‘Heads Up, Phones Down’ Contest Now Open for Teen Entries .
4. City of Gaithersburg: Most Gaithersburg government offices are closed today for Presidents Day.
5. Presidents Day Opening: The Josiah Henson Museum and Park in North Bethesda will be open today between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Learn about the Reverend Josiah Henson who was enslaved at the plantation where the museum is currently located. MCM visited the museum recently. Take a look:
