Today is Friday, Feb. 18 and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.
1. Food Resources: There are three food distribution events happening today in Montgomery County and four happening Saturday.
2. MLK Tribute: The county’s annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. takes place tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore. The theme this year is “Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things for the Fight for Freedom” and includes musical performances and reenactments of celebrities such as Harry Belafonte, Joan Baez, and Mahalia Jakson. The event was originally scheduled for January but was postponed due to the COVID-19 Omicron variant. Tickets are available here to attend the event in person. 3. Shop Maryland Energy Weekend: The state is once again giving residents a break on sales tax during the Presidents Day holiday weekend when purchasing a qualifying Energy Star appliance.
4. Black History Month Family Day: Bring the whole family for a self-guided exploration of Montgomery County’s Black history at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park in Sandy Spring. Drop by the Visitor Center to pick up take-home activities (for ages 5-12) and trail maps to explore the Underground Railroad Experience Trail on your own. This drop-in event takes place Saturday, Feb. 19 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

5. Wheaton ‘Boosterama’ Event: COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters are available Saturday, Feb. 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. in Westfield Wheaton mall near the mall’s entrance 14.
And one more thing: Congratulations to Isaac Applebaum for advancing in the Jeopardy! National College Championship! The junior at Standford University is a Richard Montgomery High School graduate from Bethesda.
