1. Extreme Cold Alert: The county is under an Extreme Cold Alert until 4 p.m. today.

2. Town Hall: At 7 p.m., U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen and U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin will lead a town hall at the Silver Spring Civic Building supporting federal workers and others impacted by the President Trump Administration. Registration to attend in-person has closed, but residents can sign-up here to be notified about a livestream.

3. Free Tickets for Fired Federal Workers: Recently fired or furloughed federal employees or contractors can claim free tickets to Olney Theatre’s production of “Waitress.” The theatre is offering two free walk-up tickets, pending availability, one hour before each performance. Be prepared to share the name of the former department and date of termination or furlough.

5. ICYMI: One of the most iconic American novels is said to have been inspired by a man who was once enslaved in Montgomery County. Josiah Henson is the inspiration behind Harriet Beecher Stowe’s “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.” Those telling Henson’s story locally want people to know the persevering hero behind the controversial character.
