It’s Monday, Feb. 5 and here are five things to know. Check the weather forecast here.
1. Library Reading Program: Children, ages 5 to 10 years old spend up to 10-minutes visiting and reading with a therapy dog. Today the program is offered at Germantown Library from 5 to 6 p.m. A limited number of tickets will be available beginning at 4 p.m. at the children’s information desk. Wheaton Library also offers the Read to a Dog program today from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sign-up for time with a dog begins at 4:15 p.m. and be aware space is extremely limited.
2. Council President Briefing: Council President Andrew Friedson’s weekly media briefing is scheduled for today at 11 a.m. Friedson is expected to discuss the Council’s Feb. 8 oversight meeting by the joint Audit and Education and Culture Committee about the Office of Inspector General’s report on Montgomery County Public Schools and other topics. 3. Council Committee Meetings: Four committees meet today, the agenda may be found here. Committee meetings are televised live on County Cable Montgomery and streamed live at http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/council/ondemand/index.html.
The Public Safety committee will receive briefings on crime statistics and the Anti-Hate Task Force recommendations at 9:30 a.m.
Also at 9:30 a.m., the Transportation and Environment Committee are set to review the state’s revised transportation plan, among other items.
Then at 1:30 p.m. the Plannine, Housing and Parks Committee meets and will review the Takoma Park Mino0r Master Plan Amendment, and other zoning changes.
The joint Health and Human Services and Public Safety Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. to review legislation to establish a crisis intervention team.
4. Municipal Monday: The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. for a regular session. The agenda and agenda packet are available online. The Rockville Mayor and Council do not meet tonight. The next Town of Poolesville Commissioners meet at 7 p.m., find the agenda online here. The Mayor and Council of Rokcville meet in one week on Monday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. with this agenda.
5. Flower Theatre Marquis: The historic facade of the former Flower Theatre in the Long Branch neighborhood of Silver Spring once again is lit in neon.
