Today is Monday, Feb. 7, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.
1. Council Media Briefing: Council President Gabe Albornoz and Vice President Evan Glass will hold a media briefing today at 11:30 a.m. to discuss a briefing about newly arriving migrant and asylum-seeking children, youth and families in the county. Sean O’Donnell, a county public health official, will provide an update. The briefing will be streamed on the Council’s Facebook page here.
2. Municipal Monday: The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet virtually tonight at 7:30 p.m. with a full agenda. The Rockville Mayor and Council will hold a worksession virtually at 7 p.m. Here’s the agenda. The Poolesville Town Commissioners meet virtually at 7 p.m.
3. Police Cadet Program: The Montgomery County Police Department’s (MCP) cadet program provides first-hand experience to qualified individuals. The department is accepting applications for the program through today.
4. N95 Masks and Rapid Covid-19 Test Kits: The county continues to distribute free N95 face masks along with rapid COVID-19 tests at the library branches today. Residents are limited to four masks per adult. Locations and hours may be found here.

5. Frederick Douglass Role in History: Richard Bell, University of Maryland history professor, talks about the impact Frederick Douglass has on the modern struggle to advance the cause of black freedom in our country. This virtual event is hosted by the libraries tonight at 7 p.m. Learn more here.
And one more thing: MyMCM visited some curlers from Montgomery County at the Potomac Curling Club this week to learn more about the sport. The club is holding a “Try Curling” open house on Feb. 12.
