It’s Tuesday, Jan. 3, and looks like a cloudy day with light rain this morning. Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.
1. MCPS Winter Break Ends: The public schools welcome back students today and urge families to stay vigilant of respiratory diseases, including flu, RSV, and COVID-19. Schools are scheduled to close on Jan. 16 to observe Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and again on Jan. 27 for a professional development day for teachers.
2. Montgomery County Council Recess: The council recess continues through Jan. 13. The next regular council meeting is scheduled for Jan. 17 and the agenda may be found online.
3. Recreation Center Passes: Starting today, passes for the county recreation centers are free and include assess to fitness rooms, open gym activities and game rooms.
4. Municipal Tuesday: The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. Residents may join in-person or virtually. The agenda is online here and the supporting documents may be found online here.
5. (DYK) Maryland Move Over Law Expansion: The modified Maryland Move Over Law now includes any disabled vehicle.
The MOVE OVER law includes all stopped vehicles that are displaying any type of caution signals or warning lights when approaching from the rear.
