1. Library Reading Program: Children, ages 5 to 12 can spend up to 10 minutes reading with a therapy dog. The program runs today at White Oak Library from 5 to 6 p.m. Limited time slots are available at the information desk.
2. Holiday Light Displays: Brookside’s Garden of Lights and the Salgado Family Christmas Display in Germantown continue through Sunday.
3. Summer Camps: Registration for county recreation camps begins Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 6:30 a.m. The county is hosting a summer camp fair Sunday, Jan. 5, at the Germantown Community Recreation Center. A second fair will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, at the East County Community Recreation Center in Silver Spring.
4. Silver Spring Train Station Open House: The historic Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Station in Silver Spring is open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Take a self-guided tour, see an HO scale model train display, and enjoy a toy train set. Young train enthusiasts can ride Thomas the Tank Engine.
5. White’s Ferry Dispute Reaches Four Years: December marks four years since White’s Ferry stopped crossing the Potomac. A mechanical failure triggered the halt, but a legal dispute over the ferry’s Loudoun County landing caused the ongoing closure. The situation continues to affect many Upcounty residents.
