Today is Monday, Jan. 31, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.
1. Council Media Briefing: Council President Gabe Albornoz and Vice President Evan Glass will hold a media briefing today at 11:30 a.m. to discuss a new bill to help combat climate change and public safety discussions. The briefing will be streamed on the Council’s Facebook page here.
2. Municipal Monday: The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council hold a virtual work session tonight at 7:30 p.m. Monthly departmental is one of the items on the agenda. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet virtually at 7 p.m. The public may participate virtually, instructions are in the agenda.
3. Metro SmarTrip Card: Metro SmarTrip cards that were purchased before 2012 will no longer work and must be replaced by March 1. This is the last day to mail your old SmarTrip card in to receive an additional $5 on a new card.
4. N95 Masks and Rapid Covid-19 Test Kits: The county continues to distribute free N95 face masks along with rapid COVID-19 tests at the library branches today. Residents are limited to four masks per adult. Locations and hours may be found here.

5. Pedestrian Fatality: Police ask for the public’s help identifying driver who hit and killed pedestrian Luz Marina Roa on Jan. 17 in Wheaton and fled the scene.
