5 Things to Know Today, July 15, In Montgomery County

1. Council Committee Meetings: Three council committees meet today. The Public Safety committee meets at 9:30 a.m. for a worksession with the police on Bill 2-24, Police – Traffic Stops – Consent Search of Motor Vehicle and Data Collection. Find the staff report here.

The Transportation and Environment committee also meets at 9:30 a.m. to discuss building energy performance standards. Find the staff report here.

The Planning, Housing and Parks committee meets at 1:30 p.m.

2. Council President Briefing: Council President Andrew Friedson will hold his weekly media briefing at 11:30 a.m. today. He will discuss two upcoming Planning, Housing and Parks Committee briefings, both dealing with housing. Watch the briefing live on the Council’s Facebook page here.

3. Public Use Reservations: Today is the first day to reserve athletic fields, outdoor basketball courts, tennis courts, and parking lots for dates from August 16 through November 30. Learn more here.

4. Rockville City Manager: Jeffrey Mihelich starts as Rockville’s City Manager today. He has more than three dcades of experience in city management. Mihelich most recently served four years as city manager of Bozeman, Montana.

5. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet for at 7:30 p.m. in their new council chambers at 16 South Summit Avenue. Find the meeting agenda and packet online. The Rockville Mayor and Council do not meet today.
