5 Things to Know Today, July 17, In Montgomery County

Today is Monday, July 17 and here are five things to know today. Weather forecasters tell us to expect a cloudy day with highs in the low 90s.

1. Council President Briefing: Council President Evan Glass will meet with the media today at 1:30 p.m. Glass will discuss the Landlord-Tenant Relations bill before the Council. Also, Glass will provide an update on the Anti-Hate Task Force in the County. Watch the briefing on the Council’s Facebook page here.

2. 10th Annual Latino Conservation Week: Kids may experience trees from a new perspective as they learn to climb a tree in the Long Branch-Arliss Neighborhood Park in Silver Spring from 10 a.m. to noon.

3. 2019 Tax Refund Deadline: Today is the last day to file for a 2019 tax refund. Typically the deadline to claim old refunds is three-years and falls around the April tax deadline. But the deadline for 2019 was postponed to July 17, 2023, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

4. Municipal Monday:  The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet at 7:30 p.m. The agenda and agenda packet are available online. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 6:30 p.m.

5. (ICYMI) Honoring Community Heroes: Friday the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce hosted its 29th Annual Public Safety Awards Breakfast to recognize first responders for their life-saving actions and contributions to ensuring safety in the community.
