Today is Monday, July 25 and here are five things to know happening in Montgomery County today. As we start the work week, here’s the 10 day weather forecast.
1. Council President Briefing: Council President Gabe Albornoz will be joined by Council Vice President Evan Glass, Montgomery County Board of Elections spokesperson Dr. Gilberto Zelaya and Health and Human Services Public Health Emergency Preparedness Manager Sean O’Donnell for a media briefing today at 11 a.m. to discuss the expansion of the County Council, provide update on the primary election, and provide a public health update. The briefing will be streamed on the Council’s Facebook page here.
2. Primary Election: The counting of mail-in ballots is tentatively scheduled to continue today in Germantown starting at 10 a.m. MyMCM spoke with Dr. Gilberto Zelaya about the process of counting the mail in and provisional ballots. The public is welcome to observe in person and may watch remotely via a livestream. Our Election 2022 Information and News page will have the interviews, news and information.
3. Gaithersburg Mayor and Council: The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. for a work session. The agenda and information packet may be found online. Tonight the police department presents five police officers with promotions. Also, the Mayor and Council will be briefed on the Gaithersburg Financial Empowerment Center. This is the last meeting before the summer recess during the month of August.
4. Metro Rail Single Tracking: The Red Line trains will single track between Silver Spring and Forest Glen this week, Monday through Thursday.
5. Grandreaders Program: The program is designed for children in kindergarten through third grade. The child will be paired with a “Grandreader” volunteer to practice reading out loud.
