1. Council Committee Meetings: Three council committees meet today. The Economic Development committee meets at 9:30 a.m. to discuss the attainable housing strategies initiative recommended by the Planning Board and the Great Seneca Plan: Connecting Life and Science. The Planning, Housing and Parks committee meets at 1:30 p.m. The Transportation and Environment committee also meets at 1:30 p.m. All meetings are open to the public, broadcast live on County Cable Montgomery, and streamed live on YouTube. 2. Council President Briefing: Council President Andrew Friedson will hold his weekly media briefing at 11:30 a.m. today. 3. Summer Reading Program for Young Students: County libraries are offering the “Read Across Generations” program starting this week to help younger students with reading skills. The program pairs children in kindergarten through third grade with a trained volunteer who will listen as the child reads aloud.
4. CM Sayles Community Meetings: Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles’ series of community meetings kick off this week. As the council’s lead for eliminating disparities, Sayles sees these discussions as a platform to highlight progress on social determinants of health, increasing crime rates, and economic vibrancy. Monday, join Sayles at the East County Regional Services Center starting at 6 p.m. to share your thoughts and concerns. A second meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 9, at the Upcounty Regional Services Center in Germantown.
5. Municipal Monday: The Gaithersburg Mayor and Council meet for a work session at 7:30 p.m. in their new council chambers at 16 South Summit Avenue. Find the meeting agenda and packet online. The Rockville Mayor and Council meet at 6 p.m. with their agenda available online.
