5 Things to Know Today, June 27, In Montgomery County

It’s Thursday, June 27, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Council: Committee meetings today.

Committee meetings are televised live on County Cable Montgomery or streamed live at http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/council/ondemand/index.html. Videos are archived and available on demand 24 hours after the meeting concludes. To listen to a committee meeting held in 3CHR, dial 240-773-3333; for 7CHR, dial 240-773-3377.

See agenda here.

2. MCDOT: The MCDOT Ped Safety Team will be at the Giant on Old Georgetown Rd in Bethesda at 4 p.m. to spread awareness about the Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon that has been activated in the area.

A pedestrian hybrid beacon (PHB) is designed to help pedestrians safely cross busy streets by providing a protected crossing. While slightly different in appearance than typical traffic signals, pedestrian activation of this beacon is performed like other push-button activated traffic signals in the County.  Ultimately, activating the PHB displays a red signal indicating stopping traffic, allowing pedestrians to cross the road with a WALK signal.

3. Montgomery Parks: Event today from 10 to 11 a.m. at Germantown Town Center.

4. Glen Echo Summer Concerts: The free outdoor concerts occur at Glen Echo Park, 7300 MacArthur Boulevard. Today is U.S. Marine Band Free Country.

5. ICYMI: Dr. Thomas Taylor was appointed superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools. Also, the school board approved retiring county Police Chief Marcus Jones as Chief of Security and Compliance.
