Today is Monday, March 21 and is Narouz, the Persian New Year. Narouz is a spring festival celebrated and observed by Iranian peoples for over 3,000 years. Here are five things to know happening in Montgomery County today.
1. Council President Media Briefing: Council President Gabe Albornoz will hold a media briefing today at 11:30 a.m. to discuss highlights on upcoming legislation and work on the FY 2023 Operating Budget. Public Health Manager Sean O’Donnell will provide a COVID-19 update. The briefing will be streamed on the Council’s Facebook page here.

3. Teen Dating Violence: RespectFest is a series of webinars culminating in an in person festival to raise awareness about violence in teen dating. Students in sixth through twelfth grades, and their parents, are encouraged to participate in the webinars and festival. Students may earn Student Service Learning hours. 4. Ukrainian Relief: The Ukrainian Girl and Boy Scouts of Plast packed emergency medical kits to send to Ukraine Saturday at Westland Middle School in Bethesda. MyMCM’s Maryam Shahzad has the story.

5. COVID-19 Test Kits and N95 Masks:The libraries continue to distribute rapid COVID-19 test kits and N95 masks. Residents may stop by their branch and pick up the kits and masks. Last week, the county started distributing the more reliable PCR test kits at five recreation centers and the Dennis Avenue Health Center.
And One More Thing: The Dewey Dog Park in Silver Spring closes today for annual maintenance.
