It’s Tuesday, March 5, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.
1. Women’s History Month: Learn more about the events in the county.
Central Michigan University will present this virtual review of female scientists, like late-blooming Rachel Holloway Lloyd, rulebreaker Marie Curie, Mildred Cohn, and Gerty Cori. This lecture for older adults is virtually at 11 a.m. Fee is $9. Learn more and register here.
2. Council: The Montgomery County Council will meet at 9:15 a.m. The meeting will begin with a proclamation presentation, led by Councilmembers Laurie-Anne Sayles, Marilyn Balcombe, Natali Fani-González, Dawn Luedtke, Kristin Mink, and Council Vice President Kate Stewart, recognizing International Women’s Day. At 1:15 p.m., a proclamation presentation, led by Councilmember Evan Glass, will celebrate the 20th anniversary of Capacity Partners.

3. Fentanyl: Mothers of children who died from a fentanyl overdose, Councilmember Natali Fani-González, business owners, residents, and the Montgomery County Police Department will meet at the Wheaton Library at 11 a.m., arriving at the Maryland State House by noon, Judiciary Committee sessions start at 1 p.m.
The delegation will advocate for the passage of two identical bills: Senate Bill 1075 and House Bill 1245.
4. Pedestrian Safety: The MCDOT Pedestrian Safety Team will be at Ellsworth Place in downtown Silver Spring from 4 to 8 p.m. to promote pedestrian, driving, and bike safety to the residents of Montgomery County. Visit the MCDOT table at the Level 2 mall entrance near Ben and Jerry’s and Kung Fu Tea for free giveaways and learn more about the safety programs.
5. (ICYMI): Bethesda Teenager formed an organization to draw more females toward architecture and engineering careers.
