The drive, organized by the county’s transportation department, requests donations of non-perishable food items on any county Ride On bus or at designated drop-off sites. Bus riders who donate will have their fare waived.

3. Metro Red Line Shutdown: The planned shutdown of the Red Line from Fort Totten to Glenmont starts Saturday, June 1 through Aug. 31. Metro and regional transportation departments offer riders various travel options during the closures.

4. Pride Month: June commemorates the impact of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals on history. According to a recent survey of LGBTQIA+ residents in Montgomery County, most respondents feel safe and welcome in the community, but 40 percent have experienced some form of discrimination in the past year. 5. Historic Marker Unveiled: There is a new historical marker in Wheaton telling the untold story of Elsie and Romeo Horad, a Black couple who fought against segregation in Montgomery County in the 1940s.

 And One More Thing: The Taste of Wheaton festival will be held on Sunday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Marian Fryer Town Plaza.
