It’s Monday, Nov. 28 and looks like a cloudy day with a slight chance of rain. Here are five things to know in Montgomery County.
1. Gaithersburg Plane Crash: Around 5:30 p.m. Sunday a small airplane flew into power lines in Gaithersburg and was suspended about 100 feet in the air. The crash resulted in about 85,000 Pepco customers without power Sunday evening. As of 1 a.m. Monday, fire and rescue services removed the pilot and passenger from the plane and then transported them to the hospital with serious injuries. Power was quickly restored to the majority of customers.
2. Schools Closed: Due to the widespread power outages caused by the airplane crash Sunday evening, Montgomery County Public Schools and offices are closed today.
3. Council Business:
- Council President Gabe Albornoz will hold his final media briefing today at 11 a.m. Council Vice President Evan Glass joins Albornoz to discuss the changed of Council leadership and the Dec. 5 inauguration of the County Executive and Council. The briefing will be streamed on the Council’s Facebook page.
- The Council meets at 12:30 p.m. to review and take positions on proposed state legislation. Watch the meeting streamed live below:
- The Transportation and Environment Committee (T&E) meets at 1:30 p.m. to discuss phase 2 of the US 29 Bus Rapid Transit Project.
- The joint T&E and Planning, Housing and Economic Development (PHED) Committee meets at 3 p.m. to discuss a supplemental appropriate for a Bethesda parking garage project.
4. FY24 Budget Forum: County Executive Marc Elrich is holding a series of hybrid budget sessions to seek input from residents about the Fiscal Year 2024 Operating Budget priorities. Tonight’s forum takes place at Leisure World from 2-3:30 p.m. Interested persons who are not Leisure World residents may join online or in-person at the North Potomac Senior Center in Rockville. Registration is requested.
