Today is Monday, Nov. 6 and here are five things to know. Check the weather forecast here.
1. Leaf Collection: The county’s leaf collection program operated by the Department of Transportation begins today and runs for 6-8 weeks. The county posts signs in neighborhoods several days ahead of each collection. The program does not operate throughout the county; areas of the program generally include south of Bel Pre Road, east of I-270/I-495, and west of New Hampshire Avenue, to the district line. Residents in these areas should make leaf piles at the curb and off the street. Piles should not contain sticks or other debris, plastic bags, or be placed near a parked car.
2. Council Work: The Economic Development (ECON) Committee meets at 9:30 a.m. to discuss agritourism in the Agricultural Reserve. The meeting takes place at the Agricultural History Farm Park and is open to the public. It will not be televised live, but will be recorded and posted to the Council’s website and YouTube page by Nov. 7. Find more information on the meeting here.
The Planning, Housing and Parks (PHP) Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. to continue review of the Fairland and Briggs Chaney Master Plan.
Council and committee meetings are streamed live on the Council’s web page via YouTube and on Facebook Live and can be watched on County Cable Montgomery on Xfinity/RCN 6 HD 996/1056, Fios 30, and on the CCM live stream.
3. Municipal Elections: The cities of Gaithersburg and Rockville elections are underway with mail-in voting. Election day is set for Tuesday, Nov. 7.
4. Shady Grove Road Bikeway Public Meeting: Learn about the scope, project details and projected schedule of the Bikeway & Pedestrian Safety Improvements project at a virtual meeting with the county Department of Transportation. The meeting is set for this evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. View the project website and register to attend the meeting here.
5. Operation Green Light: Montgomery County participates in this national program to honor veterans with displays of green light. Memorial Plaza in Rockville will be illuminated with green lights this week from today through Nov. 12.
