1. New Law: A new statewide ignition interlock law goes into effect today to close a loophole in Noah’s Law, which is named after a Montgomery County police officer who was struck and killed by a drunk driver in 2015.

2. Maryland Task Force 1: Members of the Maryland Task Force 1 with water rescue capabilities moved from Georgia to western North Carolina Monday as they continued to assist in rescue efforts as a result of Hurricane Helene.

3. Council Meeting: The county council will meet today starting at 10:15 a.m. with separate proclamations recognizing Disability Employment Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The meeting will be livestreamed here.

4. Comedy Special Canceled: Today’s Better With Age Comedy Special at Fairland Recreational Park has been canceled due to expected weather.

5. ICYMI: After an early release school day last Friday, Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring became a youth block party.
