5 Things to Know Today, Oct. 14, In Montgomery County

1. Federal Holiday: Columbus Day, also known as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, is a federal and state holiday. However, county government offices and schools do not observe it. The morning and evening rush hours will be lighter than typical.

2. Council President Briefing: Council President Andrew Friedson will hold his weekly media briefing at 11 a.m. today. He will discuss the Council’s upcoming work session on the 2024-2028 Growth and Infrastructure Policy. Friedson will also outline a multi-year plan for ongoing budget reviews outside the usual cycle. In November, the Council will start with Montgomery County Public Schools, focusing on major spending areas and the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. Next June, the reviews will expand to other key spending areas.

3. Scotland AME Church 10oth Anniversary: Martin Luther King III will host a celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the Scotland AME Zion Church building in Potomac.

Documentary Roundtable:  Docs in Progress invites filmmakers to join their virtual Trailer Night for an opportunity to meet others in the documentary community and to provide feedback to several filmmakers on their trailers.
