1. Bike Drive: The county transportation department is holding a bike donation event Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. outside the Council Office Building parking garage at the corner of East Jefferson Street and Monroe Street.

3. MCPS Saturday Highlights: Montgomery County Public Schools hosts two events Saturday.
- The first-ever “Girls’ Summit” will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Clarksburg High School. RSVP requested.
- Also on Saturday, the fifth annual STEAM festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Wheaton and Edison high schools. The free event is open to MCPS students and families of all ages and will feature activities to learn about science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
4. Floating Pumpkin Patch: The first of five floating pumpkin patches this month takes place at the Germantown Indoor Swim Center. The recreation event is for children ages two through 12 and includes a swim in the indoor pool amidst pumpkins, followed by pumpkin decorating. Cost for county residents is $5. Registration is required.
5. George W. Peck Memorial Marker Dedication: The Montgomery County Lynching Memorial Project will unveil the first historical marker in the county to acknowledge a racial terror lynching. George Peck was murdered by a mob in Poolesville in 1880. The program takes place Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. outdoors at the Poolesville Presbyterian Church, 17800 Elgin Road. A reception follows at the Locals Farm Market. Registration requested.
And one more thing: The county shelter’s ‘Find Your Boo’ event hopes to find homes for large dogs through October.
