5 Things to Know Today, Oct. 28, In Montgomery County

Today is Thursday, Oct. 28, and here are five things to know in Montgomery County.

1. Indoor Mask Mandate Ends:  The county’s indoor mask mandate ended today following seven straight days of moderate COVID-19 transmission. Masks are still required in public schools and on public transportation. Businesses can still choose to require indoor masking and have the right to refuse entry to those who don’t comply.

2. Planning Board Meets: Montgomery Planning Board meets at 9 a.m. Agenda items include a briefing from the planning staff on the Silver Spring Downtown draft plan. The public can watch or listen to the meeting online.

3. School Board Meets: The Montgomery County Board of Education meets at 9 a.m. for a work session on the recommended capital budget for next year. The board will also discuss two elementary boundary studies – Gaithersburg and Bethesda. Here’s a look at the agenda.

4. Sligo Creek Parkway Closure:  A section of Sligo Creek Parkway between Maple Avenue and Piney Branch Road in Takoma Park will close today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Montgomery Parks began removing 87 dead or dying trees earlier this month and expect the work to take about four weeks.

5. Bulb Exchange Program: Bring old incandescent and used CFL light bulbs to Twinbrook Library in Rockville from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and you’ll receive new energy-efficient bulbs.
