1. Council Economic Tour: The Economic Development Committee will tour innovation centers in Frederick and Baltimore today. View the tour schedule. The members of the committee include Chair Natali Fani-González and Councilmembers Marilyn Balcombe, Evan Glass and Laurie-Anne Sayles.

2. Friday Evening Summer Concerts: The outdoor concerts in Bethesda and Rockville are wrapping up. Rock and roll band Miss Monster, performs from 6-8 p.m. in downtown Bethesda at Norfolk and St. Elmo Avenues. The Joe Falero Band brings Latin sounds to Rockville Town Square at 6 p.m.

Black Author Book Festival: The Sandy Spring Slave Museum hosts the Black Author Book Festival on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event showcases a diverse lineup of authors specializing in children’s books, thrillers, romance, poetry, and educational reads. Throughout the day, attendees can enjoy live read-aloud sessions, hands-on workshops, and author panels.

5.  Friendship Picnic: The county’s 10th annual Friendship Picnic is Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at Wheaton Regional Park, 2000 Shorefield Road, Wheaton. The event brings together people of diverse cultures and faiths to foster friendships. Activities include music, dancing, a moon bounce, face painting, and carousel and train rides.

And Two More Things: Meet the artists behind two exhibits Friday. First, the Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards are on display from Sept. 5-29. The public is invited to the opening reception on Friday, Sept. 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Gallery B. And also, the ‘For the Love of Kensington’ exhibit showcases work from Kensington’s annual Paint the Town event. An artists’ reception takes place Friday from 7-9 p.m. at 10335 Kensington Parkway.
