1. Tropical Storm Helene: According to county Fire and Rescue Service, Maryland Task Force 1 is staged in Georgia, ready to help with rescue efforts during Tropical Storm Helene.

2. Council Committee Meetings: There is a county council committee meeting at 9:30 a.m. about crisis response and another at 1:30 p.m. about the plan to end childhood hunger. Meetings are livestreamed on YouTube. See meeting agendas here.

4. Video Contest: Middle and high school students living in the county can now enter this year’s “Speak Up, Save a Life” video contest about the opioid epidemic.

5. ICYMI: The students already started classes, but last week was a day for ribbon cutting at the Catherine and Isiah Leggett Math and Science Building on the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus of Montgomery College.
