1. Torch Run for Special Olympics: Montgomery County residents can run alongside both Montgomery County Police Department officers and Special Olympics athletes Friday at Pike & Rose in North Bethesda. The race begins at noon with check-in at 11:30 a.m.

2. Emergency Preparedness Seminar: The county will hold a hands-on workshop Saturday to prepare residents with emergency skills. The seminar will be held at the Wheaton Community Recreation Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Register for the Ready Montgomery Seminar here.

3. Girls’ Flag Football Season Underway: Wednesday was opening day for Montgomery County Public Schools’ (MCPS) first-ever girls’ flag football season.
4. Rockville Police Open House: The City of Rockville Police will hold an open house Saturday at the police station from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drop in for vehicle and equipment displays, K-9 demonstrations, a moon bounce, food, information booths, a visit by McGruff the Crime Dog and the opportunity to meet city police officers. Rain date is Saturday, Sept. 14.
5. Clear the Shelter: The Animal Services and Adoption Center will participate in the nationwide Clear the Shelters event Saturday and Sunday. During the event, the center will waive adoption fees.

1. The nonprofit Farm Animal Sanctuary celebrates 10 years serving the community with a benefit concert fundraiser for Dream Catcher Meadows. The event on Sunday, Sept. 8 from noon to 4 p.m. includes a food truck, ice cream and snow cones, silent auction, henna tattoos, and hand-made bracelets available to purchase. The concert features DC-based Geno Marriott & the Spirit of Jazz and Nashville country music artist Jamie Lee Thurston. Learn more.
