Six Montgomery County Recreation programs were recognized with National Association of Counties (NaCo) Achievement Awards commemorating the positive impacts they’ve had on the community, according to a press release.
NaCo is a nonprofit organization that represents all of the counties in the U.S. and is dedicated to strengthening them by providing resources to better the services they offer to their communities. The Achievement Awards recognize innovative government programs in a variety of different categories including arts, health, education and many more.
This year, in the “Parks and Recreation” category, Montgomery County Recreation received a “Best in Category” award for the Holiday Park Senior Center’s Outdoor Fitness Equipment area. This is the first outdoor fitness space in the region that is specifically designed for the needs of older adults aged 55 or older. The workout area is located at 3950 Ferrara Drive in Silver Spring and is free to use anytime even outside the center’s operating hours.
Five additional programs were recognized in the “Parks and Recreation” category:
- Inclusion Multi-Sport Program
- Kids Day Out
- Let Her Shine – Girls Volleyball
- Project Prom Dress
- Senior Adventures Summer Camp
