Eight people, ranging in age from 29 to 57 years, were arrested Thursday in connection with a series of burglaries in Montgomery and Baltimore counties as well other areas.
The suspects are believed to be part of a Romanian organized crime group known as “Roma crew,” according to Montgomery County Police.
They are accused of burglarizing residential and commercial properties.
Officers located suspect vehicles near a residence on Essex View Drive in Gaithersburg that had been burglarized several times in recent weeks. According to police, the suspects then traveled to a residence on Garnkirk Forest Drive in Clarksburg, where officers observed them committing a burglary Thursday.
Police tracked the suspects to a WaWa on South Frederick Avenue. With assistance from Gaithersburg City Police, the suspects were taken into custody without incident.
Seven of the suspects were charged with burglary and other crimes and taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. A female suspect was taken to a local hospital. She was not identified by police.
The suspects are Mercedesa Iordache, 50; Titina Sardaru, 57; Lorena Enache, 37; Flavius Stoican, 44; Dumitru Velcu, 29; Denisa Chiciu, 29; and Anisoara Iordache, 54.
Gaithersburg Police and Montgomery County Police 5th and 6th District Community Action Teams, 5th District patrol officers, K9 Units, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th District Detective Bureaus, and 4th and 6th District Special Assignment Teams were all involved.
