The annual “Walk and Roll” to School Day was Wednesday.
Most county elementary schools would take part, according to the county. Families and local leaders joined an event Wednesday morning at Brooke Grove Elementary School in Olney.
Parents appreciated the community event, and local electeds celebrated the day while emphasizing the importance of having safe routes to school.
Last week, the Safe Streets Act of 2023 — a county council bill aimed to make streets safer for pedestrians and bicyclists — was signed into law. It includes a requirement for infrastructure reviews after collisions in school zones, walksheds and bus stops that happen during certain hours on school days.
