Montgomery County is now accepting applications for the Covid-19 Emergency Food Access Grant program until noon on Friday, May 8.
The funding for the program will be used to provide food assistance and recovery for “hard-to-reach” Montgomery County communities during the pandemic. The funds will start being distributed on Tuesday, May 12. Non-profits can apply for up to $75,000, according to the county.
Montgomery County Council devoted $1.2 million in funding for the program to increase food access to residents, including increasing availability of culturally appropriate food assistance. All grants awarded will be reviewed by the county’s Food Security Task Force and the Healthcare Initiative Foundation will award the money, according to the county.

“Grant applications will be reviewed on criteria that includes population served, services tailored to meet language and cultural needs, impact on underserved and hard-to-reach communities and the feasibility of implementation,” stated the county.
The Food Access Grant program is in partnership with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, the Montgomery County Food Council and HIF, according to the county.
Applications for the program can be submitted on the HIF website.
